Action by Christians Against Torture - USA

"Justice without love is brutality.
Love without justice is banality.
Live Justice."  John Dominic Crossan

ACAT-USA  is an association of Christians and others, cooperating
voluntarily, as individuals or as
groups, to work to implement widely the United Nations Convention against Torture (1984) (which

                Purpose

Our goal is to unite with Christians around the world to see that the UN Convention against Torture is
properly implemented, infractions are pursued in courts of law, and torture victims are protected.

This includes urging our legally elected representatives in Local, State and Federal Government to adopt
appropriate laws and regulations and to show due diligence in enforcing them.

Sharing information of indications of any failure to enforce these laws.

Writing/contacting the appropriate authorities to obtain justice for victims of torture.

Meeting periodically to pray for victims of torture, their oppressors, and for their families, taking action to assure
them of justice and retribution for injustices done to them, and cooperating with other agencies committed to these goals.

Educating Christians, primarily, and the public at large about the evil of torture and the risks for a society which
fails to respect human rights and allows torture to be carried out by government agents.

Educational efforts shall include  assisting in raising financial support for those   who train people to be aware of their legal
rights and to receive restitution, or to take appropriate legal measures to abolish torture and abuse against the human  person .
